The Shape of Water ★★★★½

TIFF 2017: Film #12

The Shape of Water is an absolute gem and Guillermo del Toro is a national treasure.

Arguably Michael Shannon's best performance, which is saying something. Neck and neck with Take Shelter. Sally Hawkins is brilliant as well. She plays a mute woman and it's amazing how much she's able to convey without saying a single word. Richard Jenkins is the best he's been in a very long time. He oozes charm. Octavia Spencer is a breath of the freshest air.

I love fantasy/fairy-tail movies and NO ONE can make a fantasy film quite like Mr. del Toro. His are something to behold. He has an insane knack for visuals. The color pallet in this movie is outstanding.

The one word I would use to describe this film is sweet. It'll make your heart melt, unless you're heartless. This is also a surprisingly funny film.
