The script is a diamond. Addison DeWitt (scary, I know) also nicely summarizes the feeling I have of searching for a good film and the lightning bolt that hits my heart once in a blue moon when I watch a perfect one, “I’ve lived in the theater as a Trappist monk lives in his faith. I have no other world, no other life. And once in a great while I experience that moment of revelation of which all true believers wait and pray.“

KStew deserved her nomination for this over Spencer. There is something so beguiling about this film that demands a repeat viewing. He’s still got it!

An absolute abomination. No movie has made me feel this shitty about being a woman in a long time. And before you say that I didn’t get it, my disdain for this film primarily stems from the complete disregard for Harper as a character. Additionally, for all of the nature and mythical imagery in this, I wanted to scream at Alex Garland that misogyny isn’t woven into the fabric of nature. It was created by men, for men and he just did his part.

Watched this tonight with my parents to see if it would pass the academy voter test and y’all…it flopped hard.

Noticed on rewatch just how poor the direction, editing, and cinematography are. Jamie Dornan appears out of thin air, the color reflected in Judi’s glasses, etc. It’s all so heavy-handed and lacks any purpose. How is a movie that is supposed to be autobiographical, tell us next to nothing about Branagh?
