This one starts a bit slow but hoooo wow does it get going. Willem’s performance here is so tender— yes he’s a gorgeous man but his sullen demeanor makes me want to Videodrome into the screen and hug him. The chemistry between Susan Sarandon and him is truly incredible.
Schrader, despite having a habit of recycling both his own and others’ work, does an incredible job w the emotional intricacies of the story. It all feels very true and very raw, even with the meticulous and beautiful shot composition. I want to bathe myself in the purple light of this film.
I am a little piggy at the slop trough at Paul Schrader’s feet tbh
