There was 40-50 minutes of this movie where I was deeply submerged in what I imagine the filmmaker finds compelling about this technology.

I think this could make an odd, but potentially very compelling double feature with Long Day’s Journey Into Night. What does it mean to make something real? To realize a filmed reality is false? You could get truly navel gaze-y if you give this film the benefit of the doubt. Because there’s something going on here! It…

I don’t know how many times someone needs to tell me that you just need to do the work to find what makes you good at it and feel okay with it at all (the work being making art), but it’s nice to hear it from an artist I really respect.

It’s a good time! I’ve got my quibbles: I kinda wish this movie was less “studio comedy” and more dramatic, expressionistic (show me those beautiful surfaces! This is a movie in some part about materialism!) grimy, etc. But I can’t complain too much. My preferred version of the movie would dig into that particular montage in the first act of the film juxtaposing the film’s dual aesthetics of WALL STREET and STRIP CLUB, but that would probably be a different movie. A less fun one. Because I’m a bummer.

J.LO is solid too. Super impressive.
