Julia ✨’s review published on Letterboxd:
Here are two things I am obsessed with: Dark fairytales and historical moments that are overlooked in the American educational system.
Magic, hope, and escapism don't have to be relegated to being silly fancies for children. Sometimes they are a direct reflection of the darkness around us and can be the tools we use to find a way out. It matters that Ofelia tried. It matters that Mercedes never gave up on her brother or her comrades. It matters that their stories intertwined. It matters their stories got told.
I'm going to be rewatching this one for years.
