The first and best of Hollywood's attempts to make Keenen Ivory Wayans into an action star. Keenan has the acting chops and swagger with a decent eye for action, but everything is slightly undercooked, and a chunk of the humor is quite problematic. Regardless, this is entertaining enough and has a terrific supporting cast: Andrew Divoff as the villain; Salli Richardson as the femme fatale (whatever happened to her?); and Jada Pinkett Smith, in an early role, as Shame's annoying but endearing sidekick.

Bebe's Kids 1992
This, Krustyland, and Beverly Hills Cop 3 really warped my childhood view of theme parks. Amazing to find a Dolemite reference in an animated family film.

The Irishman 2019
It was no more complicated than that.
It doesn't have quite the rewatchability of Goodfellas or Casino, and intentionally so. Not so much the epic length, but rather the pacing, tone, and general energy of I>The Irishman, dragging itself out and then creeping up on you hard. Loses me in the second hour or so, with all the union business and characters to keep track of, but I initially whined about the back end of Goodfellas as a kid, so maybe I'll age into this too. Some career-best performances from DeNiro, Pacino, and Pesci, but the extra points go to Action Bronson pitching coffins.

Darby O'Gill and the Little People 1959
A Disney live-action family film about the village drunk and his alcohol-induced hallucinations, with brogues and bar fights galore until the last ten minutes when it becomes a terrifying horror movie with neat FX, again produced for children.

Skinamarink 2022
The cinematic equivalent of that very specific childhood dread you'd get when your parents left you home to go out for dinner: that they might die in a car accident and leave you alone.
