  • Enola Holmes

    Enola Holmes

Nanggung semuanya. Sherlocknya nanggung, Mycroftnya nanggung. Ibunya nanggung. Nyari ibunya nanggung. Perjuangan feminismenya nanggung. Romansanya nanggung. Actionnya nanggung. Politiknya nanggung. Drama keluarga nanggung. Misteri Tewkesburynya nanggung (YAKALI CEPET AMAT KELAR). Enola yang notabene SATU-SATUNYA fokus film ini pun jadinya nanggung.

Yang penting representasi masuk kan ya. One black person jadi anggota gerakan feminisme. One stereotypically East Asian jadi... guru menyulam di akademi kepribadian. Ok.

Tapi semua aktingnya uwu. Kecuali Henry Cavill. Flat amat kek roti Maryam.

Feel like nothing pretentious about this movie.

  • The Two Popes

    The Two Popes

I used to think that when they say God choose the pope, it literally means that. I thought the white smoke comes from God, magically, when they put one of the pope's name in the bowl. Imagine Goblet of Fire. Yeah I thought it was like it.

Despite of its fictional dialogues, questionable truth behind it, despite of the filmmaker's subjective view about papacy, I enjoy every other aspects. The two popes, the two actors, the pictures, the editing.…

    Young Adult

Feels like eating a big boiled carrot with no seasoning. A lot of pausings in between dialogues because of how bitter and embarrassing and real Mavis Gary is. I just had to process one chunk before putting another into my mouth. Charlize Theron is golden. But overall, it's bland. What does the film want to say? Not that it's unclear, it's just not so interesting that I want to find out further.

  • Life As We Know It

    Life As We Know It

    Here's a few complaiments (I can't decide whether it's a complaint or compliment).

    1. There's a scene where the couple have to take the baby driving around the neighborhood by a car so that the baby would stop crying in the middle of the night. They drive for hours until supposedly almost early. The guy looks tired af and the woman has already fallen asleep (so is the baby).

    2. Then there's a scene where the guy is angry and…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

There's nothing new offered in this short film. At first I didn't believe it won an Oscar, then during watching this I thought it won an Oscar probably ten years ago, but after a quick fact-checking it did win in 2020 Academy Award. I read that the filmmaker was inspired by a true story told in a podcast. I wouldn't say it's not a heartwarming story.

But all I get from this is a message about how you should be…
