Princess Cyd ★★★★

I've been a fan of Stephen Cone for years, and Princess Cyd encapsulates everything I admire about his work. For one, he crafts a queer love story (love being especially fluid here, meaning both romantic and in the platonic sense) that manages to feel natural and spiritual at the same time.

Cone, who is no stranger to incorporating religiosity into his filmmaking, casts a wide net here; allowing his characters to talk about their beliefs or lack thereof, without it ever feeling like a gimmick or that he is pandering to a certain type of audience. Instead, he weaves a tale that is inclusive and deeply sensitive, which taking into account all of the subjects he tackles, is a miraculous feat.
