Spencer Kain’s review published on Letterboxd:
Basically exactly what you think it's going to be. Nothing more, nothing less. It's Jason Statham going up against a massive shark that was known to be extinct for literally thousands of years. Just reading that you should already know what you're going to get with this movie.
It came out in August and it just feels like that type of movie. One last pretty big blockbuster to close out the summer that is just fun enough to entertain you for two hours but don't think anything of it while you're watching it and definitely don't think more about it after you watch it. You'll most likely forget about it a couple days after you watch it and that's all that it's purpose really is.
Nevertheless, it is still a fun, entertaining and totally ridiculous late summer movie that sometimes takes its self a little too seriously, but it's also just dumb enough to know better than to beat you over the head with it.
All the shark scenes were really cool, though.
