Dog will hunt! Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is an over the top bloody disgusting masterpiece.
It's the worst circus you could ever go to where everyone screams the whole time, Leatherface is the real life Kool Aid Man, and the main actress Stretch is a stretch when it comes to her acting. All of that doesn't matter because the sheer bizarity and vile decadence is so glorious that you can't look away from it. Every performance is dialed to 11 and it's so much fun! Bill Mosely as Chop Top, Dennis Hopper out of his freaking mind and Jim Siedow as Cook are all brilliant lunatics and madmen.
Movies like this and the Evil Dead movies are at their best when they go full demented Looney Tunes. Picture Bugs Bunny cutting up Elmer Fudd with a chainsaw while blood is splattering everywhere, all while Bugs is laughing and bouncing around the room frenetically. That's what I envision when Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 purposefully goes off the rails and let's the crazy reign. Just pure over the top, cartoon violence and chaos. It's a thrill ride and complete escape from the mundane everyday world. It's an escape into a twisted three ring circus of the demented, chaotic world of psychopaths. This to me is what horror is all about.
As far as sequels go, this is a brilliant sequel. It doesn't try to copy the raw brilliance of the original, but does its creative and over the top own thing, and doesn't give a damn what you think about it. This was clearly made from someone who loves the sub genre that he helped create and wanted to dive deeper into the guts and goo of his own creation. I'm buzzing about this movie despite the terrible pun I just used to end this review!
