  A lot better than I remembered, though I think it has its shortcomings. It’s beyond cliched to say this but I think this is one of the times that Spielberg’s sentimentality really does hold the film back. He’s far too sentimental towards both Lincoln himself and America in general. It means the movie has this urge to lean in every time Abe starts giving a (admittedly well written) speech about the lofty ideals America is supposed to stand for, yet…
