Brutal as hell, but just as compelling. You can easily cast this film off as just another prison film, but this one just gets under your skin and stays there.
It feels lived in, grimy, and pulpy, and even if you write this one off as just another macho tale of a guy fighting for his life in a prison that closely resembles Hell, this might be the Citizen Kane of those films.
Vince Vaughn gives probably one of his best performances and shows some serious chops where you feel his pain, anguish and sense of duty. He knows that he's doomed and its fascinating to watch even with a runtime of over two hours.
This might be one of those films that gets lost in the cracks, but its certainly one to seek out before the year is done.
