Nostalgia is a funny thing. When I saw "The Force Awakens" I got all the chills and goosebumps when I saw all my old friends again. It was like a reunion.
This time around, while I still like seeing those old friends, there are times when I just want to go to bed and stop entertaining them.
"The Force Awakens" was a culmination of nearly three decades of Star Wars love and appreciation, "The Last Jedi" certainly has plenty of good to it, but it's a little unrelenting with a sneaky runtime that makes it feel slightly too long...for me at least.
Luckily, Rian Johnson doesn't fall for (all) the standard tropes and cliches and actually creates some new and interesting dynamics, but whereas "The Force Awakens" reinvigorated my love for Star Wars, I came out of "The Last Jedi" slightly drained and just beaten down.
Even with that said, it's beautiful to look at and has one of my favorite scenes in Star Wars history, and that's saying a lot.
One last thing, Porgs...please just go away....
