Sam’s review published on Letterboxd:
2001: A Space Odyssey, a film often referred to when talking Sci-Fi films. it's undeniably a film ahead of it's time predating Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien and so many other films that are deemed iconic themselves (though Kubrick of course had is inspirations too).
Stanley Kubrick had visions I'd never even think of, the film starts off with apes discovering tools and we soon end up in space with Hal (an AI) and two astronauts. Without going into spoiler-centric details it's a fascinating story with some brilliant special effects.
Although I felt both the beginning and ending sequences could have been short I was definitely encapsulated in the whole plot/concept and characters, it's unique in all aspects even when it was released 52 years ago it has yet to be matched even if I do enjoy others such as Star Wars slightly more!
It's a film that makes me wish I was alive in 1968 to see it in the cinema on the big screen, hopefully, that opportunity may still arise.
