the moment where characters in the movie hear tetsu’s theme song and realize he is approaching… brilliant

Beyond the Black Rainbow 2010
definitely not for everyone, but if you can enjoy something with a thin plot just for the ~aesthetic~ this is a fantastic vhs fever dream.

The Love Witch 2016
i wanted to like this one a lot more than i actually did. ended up watching daisies right afterwards which was actually what i wanted to see from this.
the aesthetic they went for is very cool and well done, but it can’t support the entirety of the movie.

Solaris 2002
i don't know why this one gets crapped on, i think it's fantastic.
lem's been quoted about being mad about these adaptations- his book is about failing to communicate with something incomprehensible and incomprehensibly powerful, and the movies are just humans with emotional problems. at least this one leans in hard on that last bit.
jeremy davies is perfect in this.

Only Lovers Left Alive 2013
this film is about how vampires are the ultimate hipsters. they've lived long enough that they've seen it all, and nothing is new, and it's all BORING.
i've heard from some people that they hated this because they found the characters insufferable, but i think that's the point.

Grizzly Man 2005
forgot what werner herzog doing a not-entirely-fictional documentary looked and felt like. i think this one really stands up.
