Documentaries that Engage and Enlighten

I came late to an appreciation for documentaries. I used to equate them with nature shows and travelogues. But... I gradually realized what a powerful medium this could be, if the writing and direction were spot on. So although they are still not my first choice when settling in for a film, I respect how, in their own way, they have the ability, to move, to outrage and to stir up powerful emotions.
