Ex Machina ★★★★½

It's hard to talk about this film without spoiling things, so here's some more general thoughts:

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, always waiting on the next clue to figure things out. Just when you have things bolted down, the film throws you another surprise that makes you re-think where you stand.

The film also manages to do so much with so little: there are very, very few locations in the movie, and only a small handful of actors. That's truly all it takes to tell a good story.

Speaking of story, the reason I'm awarding this film such high marks is how your emotions get played with so powerfully—the audience is basically in the same shoes as Caleb. You feel a solidarity with him, and the ups and downs impact the two of you equally.

Anyway, this was fantastic, and highly recommended viewing. Adored the ending, and left our group chatting about the film all night.
