Stephen Georg’s review published on Letterboxd :
Written, directed, and co-starring Tom Hanks, That Thing You Do! follows a teenage band's rise from small town beginnings to the Billboard top 10—all in 2 months. "The Oneders" are the very definition of one-hit wonders, and you take a journey with the four male bandmembers as they hit the big time quickly, dealing with the problems that can accompany fame.
It's an incredibly fun watch and extremely well-written, even if some of the events are expected. Tom Hanks doesn't show up until halfway through the film, but he's a natural for his role as label big-shot.
They also nail the 1960s time period, so if you're in the mood for a fun film (or just love the era), give That Thing You Do! a watch.
