The Kid

The Kid ★★★★★

In Charlie Chaplin's The Kid an orphaned baby is dumped on the side of the street. Here The Tramp (Chaplin) finds the baby (Jackie Coogan), with the baby is a note asking the founder to take care of him. At first The Tramp wants to get rid of him but soon becomes attached and we get a glimpse into 5 years later. The film is funny, sad and extremely clever with several of the best sequences I've seen. I was in awe from the soundtrack, it's one of the best I've heard in a silent film so far. This is a comedy which is both poetic and uplifting, it put me in such a great mood, powerful stuff this is. The visuals were amazing and after seeing this it's influence is clear and it's safe to say that my first Chaplin film is one of the best films I've had the pleasure of viewing.
