I went and saw The SpongeBob movie: Sponge on the Run today. I enjoyed it. The animation was really well done and it was silly, colourful fun. It all builds up to a real sweet, heartwarming resolution that celebrates friendship and teamwork. I rate Sponge on the Run 8 sponges out of 10.
Terry Gilliam's masterfully directs this beautiful film about a despondent former radio DJ and his relationship with a mentally disturbed homeless man. Jeff Bridges is excellent in the lead role, with a performance that is layered, humane and believable. Robin Williams gives one of his best performances and brings humour and heart to the role. The screenplay is intelligent, funny and heartfelt. The Fisher King is a wonderful masterpiece that is a joy to watch and has now become one of my favourite films.
Deadpool may end up being the most overrated film of the year. Most audiences seem to love it but I was not impressed. The film isn't very funny and many of the jokes are juvenile or just stupid.
