One of the most compelling and relatable anti-hero masterpieces from the American golden age.
Dustin Hoffman is lean and commanding like a runner in a never-ending race - articulating the puzzling contradictions of his character with codified restraint, the dramatic potential of his micro-expressions thoroughly mined by beautiful long-lens cinematography. And as long lenses track and imprison him in the chaotic depth of real-world locations, the story action does the work of answering questions raised by Hoffman's suggestions.
