I started watching this a few days ago thinking it would be bad. I wanted something on in the background while I read. It’s actually quite good, but I didn’t really watch the first act, so while I was able to follow along enough to appreciate the movie, I don’t feel justified rating it. The acting is great and the camerawork is sick, but it’s slow and dramatic and I’d probably give it 2.5 stars if I had seen the whole thing.
There are a lot of hard to watch moments scattered throughout. Bunch of flogging in act three.
The first half was weird and kept my attention. Kind of nightmarish and wacky and fun. But then there’s a graphic rape like 20 minutes from the end and I don’t think it was necessary. also the movie feels so half-assed in general but the first half had freaks in it so respect to the freaks<3 happy pride to the lesbians in the bar sorry, that straight people started making out in your general vicinity
Loved some of the (often superfluous) visuals. What was up with all those dudes linking arms bent over with their asses out? Sound of the summer fr.
Tempted to take a look at the source material even though the design of this really propels the story, for me. I get what this film is doing but because the message is so clear I feel like I’m missing the heart of the original play. Which is fine, for now. This was…
