A dazzlingly eclectic albeit (unsurprisingly) shallow odyssey of one of the most beloved performers of all time. Expect the Baz Luhrmann special - aggressively frenetic editing and a flashy stylistic choice made whenever possible (one man’s trash - I loved it). Some sequences in here are absolutely bonkers and intoxicating, full on goosebumps for five minutes, partially from Baz but ultimately because Austin Butler gives an Oscar-worthy performance that you swear is the real thing in certain moments. The highs are high, but the lows will really sober you up. This doesn’t even scratch the surface of what there is to say but video soon!

I like to dissect girls. Did you know I'm utterly insane?

Adapted/directed by a genius female pair and one of the funniest movies of all time. The blows are coming from all directions as Harron and Turner poke fun at male vanity through Bateman and society through their reaction to him. There are so many glorious layers to this. Personally, i would have simply not climbed to the top of the 2,000 foot tower with a sign that says “NO TRESPASSING DANGER OF DEATH” without alerting anyone to where i was. That’s just me tho

I am so obsessed with the notion of luck so this was doubly disappointing because it does nothing interesting with the concept. And this movie never even follows its own rules! And it has like five different endings! The characters are constantly idiotic beyond what’s passable for a kid’s movie and most of it doesn’t make sense. Some cute parts, I enjoyed the performances, it’s not offensively bad it just feels like the derivative animation machine on autopilot. It would definitely entertain a 6 year old but that’s not a high bar.

You know what, it’s an original, ambitious action comedy that has VERY consistent tone and pacing, actual themes (i mean, they’re definitely there), looks good, has tight action, occasional early Guy Ritchie vibes, and an excellent cast who all came to play. Is it kind of a mess? Yes. Do the jokes always land? God no. Was I getting sick of Brad Pitt’s character? A little! Did I learn too much Thomas the Tank Engine lore? Maybe! But god dammit…

This is the best movie ever made. I don’t think I’m kidding.
