I was really looking forward to this because everything about it looked fun, and parts of it are. But it doesn't seem to find the right balance and is never quite as fun as you hope it's going to be.
All the leads are great. Needed much more Hugh Grant though.
Important stuff out of the way first, this movie absolutely rules. Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada in the same SHOT are you kidding.
Two lines really hit me though and are the kind that will stay with me a while:
"Friendship means little when it's convenient"
I literally took out my phone to write that line down the second it was spoken. The other one:
"Do you think your wife can hear you?"
"No"
"Then why bother?"
"Maybe I'm wrong"
Two incredibly grounded, real and meaningful lines in a very over the top world. Absolutely loved them.
I went into this movie blind because it worked out time-wise and didn't realise it was a faith movie until they all started singing about 10 minutes in and I realised I'd made a huge mistake.
It's not good and everyone's acting is turned up to 125% to the point of distraction. However, the production of it was really excellent. For a relatively larger-scale movie, nothing looked or felt cheap or like they were cutting corners at all.
