In the Heat of the Night ★★★★

Film #27 of Smiler Grogan's Scavenger Hunt
Task 14/30: A film about prejudice

I love Sidney Poitier. A beautiful film depicting race relations, big city/small city relations, and citizen/police relation. While the ultimate 'whodunnit?' is largely irrelevant and a subplot in the movie, the characters and their conversations are so engaging. Jewison maneuvers through these tough topics (especially given the time) with practiced ease. Every exchange of dialogue is tightly written and filled with many layers expertly pulled off by the talented cast. I liked it quite a bit.
