In the Heights is a lot of fun. There are definitely aspects of this I feel could have been executed better: the obvious casting issues, the runtime could have been condensed, the pacing could have been tighter overall, and there’s certain things that were cut that I shouldn’t while certain things were included (the entire Lin-Manuel Miranda scene) that could have easily been cut. Even though those issues are more noticeable on a rewatch, so were the energetic and infectious musical numbers that come fast enough to distract me from focusing on the flaws.
The musical numbers are easily the best part of this, and the way each one is different from the last make this so much more enjoyable. I have always loved “96,000” and the way it was brought to life on screen exceeded all my expectations.
I can easily see myself rewatching this repeatedly.
