Even better on a second watch!
Honestly love every single things about this film. Kristen Stewart is the star, of course, and she delivers such a captivating performance that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The supporting cast is just as fantastic, even if their roles are smaller, they make those moments count and perfectly elevate the story with their appearance. Sally Hawkins is unbelievably good as Maggie and her moments with Stewart on the beach are beautiful to watch. Sean Harris gives a fantastic performance as the Royal Head Chef and has a really poignant moment with Stewart that is really great. And Timothy Spall’s Major Gregory takes you on a journey, from absolutely hating him to really admiring him. It’s a well-rounded cast that knows what story they’re telling and play their parts to perfection.
Those powerful performance mixed with Pablo Larraín’s direction, Claire Mathon’s cinematography, Jonny Greenwood’s score, the gorgeous sets and the beautiful costumes make Spencer one of the best films I have seen this year.
