James Crowley’s review published on Letterboxd:
Did not finish.
Had a high concept double-feature planned, following up The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre with this, but the side effects from the methotrexate I take for lupus symptoms kicked in and I became too loopy/cranky to follow through.
The movie:
(opening title card)
On Saturday 14th February 1900 a party of schoolgirls from Appleyard College picknicked at Hanging Rock near Mt. Macedon in the state of Victoria.
Me: Hey, Boo Boo, Let’s Go Get Us A Pic-A-Knick Basket At Hanging Rock!
The movie:
(opening title card continues)
During the afternoon several members of the party disappeared without trace…
Me: What, no John Larroquette narration?
The movie:
(voiceover, sadly not by John Larroquette, begins over lush shots of scenery)
what we see...
and what we seem...
are but a dream...
a dream within a dream....(pan flute by Zamfir starts on soundtrack)
Me:
(pauses movie)
(goes to YouTube)
(watches the music video for Return to Innocence by Enigma because my head hurts too much to remember Sadeness, which was the song I was actually thinking of)
(stops movie)
If anyone has wondered why I watch/log/review even fewer movies than I used to, this is basically why….
