Steve B.’s review published on Letterboxd:
Because of the difficulty staying engaged or awake through its meandering, soothing, plotless 2-hour runtime I can't give Knight of Cups very high marks. There is some meaning there, but because of Christian Bale's quiet Hollywood character it can be easily misinterpreted or missed entirely. That doesn't mean the film is worthless. There is a lot to appreciate technically and in the acting. Emmanuel Lubezki's photography is once again amazing and gives the film its soothing nature, which I've read was meant to project a dreamlike state or memories. I would say his work was very successful in that regard, and reminded me of his great work in director Terrence Malick's previous film, To the Wonder.
