Aaron Michael’s review published on Letterboxd:
An incredible performance and great story hampered by length. Listen, I love long films. I think I like them more than most people! But there's a difference between a film that needs to be two hours and twenty minutes and a film that's two hours and twenty minutes that needed a better editor.
Still, this showcased some really stunning moments and Sonia Braga's performance was sublime. She commands the film with such a quiet - and sometimes not so quiet - intensity that I was willing to forgive the run time.
Also, after watching the horribly flat-footed political narrative of I, Daniel Blake earlier today, it really nice to see a film that embeds its politicism within its narrative in a way that feels natural.
