  • Dark Phoenix

    Dark Phoenix

Toothless, lost potential, dialogues we've all heard a thousand times and harmful tropes applied to female characters; but isn't it what all super hero movies are like, really?

The rating is higher than it should be but X-Men movies are their own kind of fun

  • The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society

number one film if ranked by how beautiful lily james looked; otherwise it's pretty meh

  • Instant Family

    Instant Family

really wholesome and very important film, but apart from the subject matter, the film just wasn't that good. the great majority of the jokes landed flat for me, and overall it was so basic; the story made it all worth it in the end though. i hope it will open the way for more (and better) films about fostering and adopting children.

also it was a long, hard process but i've come to the conclusion that I would have rose…

  • Widows

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Didn't like it very much but the ending scene is basically a reenactment of the last scene of Carol (2015) dir. Todd Haynes, so you know what.... maybe it's not that bad

(Just to give a quick idea of what I didn't like: thought the first part of the film where they introduce so many characters and storylines was badly handled and confusing; some scenes felt completely unnecessary (I genuinely don't get the scene where Michelle Rodriguez makes out with…

  • Venom

It's a real mess but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have some fun watching it. There are some genuinely good ideas in there that are just not done very well; I especially liked how they handled the Venom/Eddie/Anne relationship. People joked about how this film is a romcom but it truly feels like it is, and this weird three-way relationship was by far the most enjoyable part in my opinion. The fact that this is like, one…

  • The Ring

    The Ring

It was a huge thing for me to watch this film for the first time because I'm very scared of supernatural horror and I heard so much about this one but honestly? it's not that scary nor that good...... I still was interested in the mystery and I had fun overall because some parts were laughably bad, but I'm kind of disappointed (although ironically happy that it didn't traumatize me).

Added half a star more for that scene at the…

  • Jacqueline Sauvage - C'était lui ou moi

Jacqueline Sauvage - C'était lui ou moi

It looks more like a PSA against domestic violence than an exploration of a complex real-life case, but at least its purpose is honorable. The performances from Muriel Robin and Olivier Marchal are clearly the highlight; the rest is either okay or edging on bad (Jacqueline's cellmate subplot is completely unnecessary, and the few scenes between the three sisters are honestly kind of bad - I can't tell if it's the writing, the acting or both).

    It probably deserves less…

  • Photo de famille

    Photo de famille

It could have really been a gem if the plot wasn't as scattered as the three protagonists are supposed to be at the beginning of the movie. Maybe I failed to see their relevance but there were a lot of scenes and subplots that felt completely unnecessary and/or sloppy, and the humor was very flat with few exceptions. It's a shame because the film is incredibly rich in themes and depth, with a very strong emotional core, but it only…

  • Mirror

Very pretty to look at, and I really /felt/ one or two scenes, but overall I have unfortonately not yet reached the level of conciousness one needs to have to be able to understand this movie in both a rational and emotional sense.

  • Dracula

Absolutely adored the way it was shot and edited, the use of shadows and light, the transitions and images overlaid on one another, the inventiveness of some of the shots; I just wish the plot was just as good.

  • Ocean's Eight

    Ocean's Eight

This really could have been an incredible movie, and instead we got..... this. It's not bad at all, but it's so boring. The pacing is so bad and the actual heist, while quite fun (the only part of the movie that I actually found fun) is so not realistic AT ALL that it kind of defeats the entire movie. I wasn't expecting something deep or extremely clever, but because the movie didn't give me much I can't help but be…

  • Anna Karenina

    Anna Karenina

I still have one hour left of the movie but I have a feeling it isn't going to get better. The idea of everything taking place on a stage is interesting and makes this movie earn half a star more, but it gets boring pretty quickly and doesn't enhance the story most of the time - while it works to portray the theatricality of the aristocratic society and the idea of everyone looking at you and what you do, we…
