    Ditch Party

I remember seeing a clip of the Cinestate guy whining that liberal Hollywood wouldn't let them make a school shooting thriller. This sucked ass but these guys got it done. Not sure what their problem is.

  • ClownTown

The scary twisted clown thing is probably the cornies aesthetic in horror but the title "ClownTown" does succeed in building one's anticipation for a town of clowns. Unfortunately there are five clowns in this movie at most. It feels like it was inspired and performed by the staff of a county fairground haunted house and that's sort of charming but the relative lack of clowns is very disappointing.

  • The Florida Project

    The Florida Project

Watched this on a shitty TV in my living room and it still felt like The Florida Project: The 4DX Experience. Very vividly delivers the sort of deep, soggy ache that just radiates from some parts of Central Florida.

    Can't Take It Back

Shudder has a nice eclectic selection so it only makes sense that the Netflix/Redbox tier "Facebook/your phone is haunted" kind of thing would be represented.

  • (My) Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys

(My) Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys

There's a bit in this where some sycophant that wanted to make movies with these guys wistfully remembered a late-in-life Corey Haim handing him a treatment for License to Drive 2 he'd written. He says the spelling and grammar were just unbelievably bad but more importantly the treatment was wonderful. A lot more grim that it intended to be.

    City of the Living Dead

Big takeaways from this week are that selfishness is closer to the center of American identity than I knew and I like Lucio Fulci way more than I thought I did

  • The House by the Cemetery

    The House by the Cemetery

Been driving myself crazy all day trying to place who exactly it is that Bob looks like. Just realized it's the monster from Nightbeast.

  • The Beyond

    The Beyond

Completely full of uncanny, grostesque images and events but the thing that's really sticking with me this time is one character telling another "Have a happy lunch." Have a happy lunch. Have a happy lunch.

  • Captain Marvel

    Captain Marvel

It's cool how there was a whole battle in the culture war over what is just a supremely dull movie. Annette Benning has a real "I guess I have to do one of these" kind of energy that doesn't make the movie any better but does make me like her that much more.

  • Fantasy Island

    Fantasy Island

Definitely one of the dumbest movie-going experiences of my adult life. That might not have been a problem if it weren't 110 minutes but it is so it was. Also maybe the worst thing I've seen from Blumhouse. Real bad.

  • Gretel & Hansel

    Gretel & Hansel

    Old witch, don't read this
    Young witch...hello

  • Doom: Annihilation

    Doom: Annihilation

Not good, even in such a way as a straight to video Doom could be good, but emits an extremely powerful 2007 energy that I really appreciated. Very vivid memories of checking out anything even tangentially "horror" from Hollywood Video.
