What a wonderful year it's been. Even our silly popcorn thrillers have a lot going for them. I enjoyed Money Monster. A lot. Probably more than I should. It's implausible, heavy-handed, and kind of dumb, but it's peppered with lots of really great performances, character moments, and plot twists, both predictable and not. If the whole movie had focused on just the two leads and their Kobayashi Maru instead of straying away to the corporate fraud plot, I would have ranked this much higher. As it is, I'm happy keeping this as a hidden gem, and I look forward to rediscovering it years from now and giving it another look on a lazy afternoon.
