Matt Singer’s review published on Letterboxd:
Turns out the real war ... was love.
(And World War II.)
((But also love.))
Wasn't crazy about Brad Pitt's performance. I think he’s maybe going for a Bogart thing, brooding and betraying no emotions. When the film becomes entirely about emotions, it suffers as a result. Otherwise, Zemeckis has another very solid historical drama on his hands. After his mildly disastrous mo-cap period, his gift for blending big special effects with genuine human drama has returned him to near the top of my list of favorite studio directors.
Also I’m a total Oscar idiot, but this thing has gotta be a lock for the Best Costume Design award. If it’s not at least nominated, I’ll eat my Gymkata sword.
