Malignant ★★★

Eschews the slow-burn, elevated horror nonsense of today's "arthouse" cinema in favor of something more effective. Horror films aren't that scary anymore, and James Wan has always demonstrated an accomplished form of craftsmanship seldom found among his contemporaries. So it was rather resourceful of him to reconfigure horror as a structuralist exercise. Malignant doesn't reinvent the genre, but it doesn't need to. It alchemizes various aesthetic and narrative devices of genre filmmaking to maximize the theatrical and spectacular qualities of horror, all in its absurdist glory.

Also, the poster reminds me of Interrogation's.

Also also, my favorite non-spoiler scene is the chase. It's so fucking goofy - I love it 😩👌
