Stage Struck ★★★½

This one I did pick out of the Talking Pictures list based on recognisable names (Henry Fonda, Christopher Plummer), but they didn't mention it was directed by Sidney Lumet, or that it was Plummer's first movie, or that Alex North did the music, and I didn't connect the name Susan Strasberg to her father Lee… so basically, what a treat…

…Actually, story-wise it's admittedly light (I'll probably watch the original later to compare, especially as it runs even shorter at 75 minutes), but Strasberg alone is captivating enough to sustain 90 minutes (I was reading her Wikipedia page while watching and already have her two books on their way and a couple of other of her movies lined up to watch). All those other credentials and the New York location shooting are a bonus.
