I was not expecting it but I kinda liked it? I know, very strange. At the hour mark they zig when I thought they were going to zag and I was with them for the choice to go weirder than standard Disney fare. Plus, that honey/bee guy was horrific and would have given me lifetime nightmares as a kid, so kudos for that.
Deliberate in pace, but not slow. Manages to be emotionally devastating without resorting to cheap theatricality or melodrama. Feels like a real story with real people making the best decisions they can within the limitations of their knowledge and experience. A slice of filmic authenticity.
