    The Northman

This is a completely substanceless reinterpretation of the Oedipus myth, Hamlet, Fanny & Alexander, The Lion King, Funeral Parade of Roses, etc. ... my point is: I have seen this before. This well-known story has seldom been told in such a boring way as in The Northman.

Highly interesting portrait of a performance artist who is struggling with her career – and with herself. The film’s most important strength is great acting, especially by Birgitte Larsen in a very strong lead. The sophisticated editing and the original and ambitious soundtrack are underlining the mood of the main character. But nevertheless, the movie does not force the audience to feel too much pity for her – which easily could have weakened the movie drastically. The film is both simple and complex at the same time. Truly one of the greatest portrays of an artist I have ever seen in film.
