El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

    the wild west

Vince Gilligan crafted television perfection with Breaking Bad. With five seasons of meticulous writing and direction, there has been nothing better on television since it's launch and departure, and they're probably never will. So when El Camino was announced, like many other Breaking Bad fans, I was worried. Worried that one of my favorite things put to screen would be ruined, and its legendary legacy unraveled. Yeah, I was wrong.

El Camino is for Breaking Bad fans.…

    send in the clowns

Todd Phillips has crafted something so unique and complex that it's bound to change the landscape of comic-book cinema for years to come. Don't expect an action movie; you will be severely disappointed. This is a character study, a drama, a slow burn- which consequently makes for one of the most audacious and risky takes on the comic book genre. I loved it.

Joaquin Phoenix is an absolute riot, and this performance signifies him as one…

    A Monster Calls

    he called for a monster

    Film Club (Catch Up)

Visually stunning and heart-wrenching, sometimes a little too much for my sensitive ass. The only thing I can complain about is the offbeat pacing at times, but everything else from a positive point of view has already been said. Check it out.

  • Joker

I'm actually quite surprised about how much this improves on rewatch. The social commentary that comes off as surface level is much more apparent and noticeable. Joaquin's over the top flamboyant performance feels a lot more natural once realizing where his character goes. And once I picked up on the unreliability of Arthur as a narrator, everything flowed better. One of my biggest issues was how disturbing and how hard to watch Joker was at times (when Arthur tries to…

    Ad Astra

    it’s crazy out there

I'm relatively sure that Ad Astra will be one of the most divisive films of the year. This is not your standard space odyssey, and definitely not something a typical moviegoer will be used to. It's not an action blockbuster that the trailers may have promised, but more of a self-reflective meditation about serious themes such as abandonment. The plot may not be as thick or layered as I was hoping for, but I was still…

    Gemini Man

    3D+ IN HFR

Even though Gemini Man isn't a good film, there's no denying it's technical brilliance. The hyper-realistic and the high frames per second make the action immersive, white-knuckled, and far more brutal than a typical PG-13 blockbuster. Every bullet fired, and every punch landed is felt, and it makes for an edge of your seat experience. Bash on 3D all you want, Ang Lee knew what he was doing. But the script is borderline atrocious, with the dialogue…
