i love this shit.
It's a gritty modern day western of wide vistas. An atmospheric (mainly through silence and a sense of impending doom) chase movie. However when the characters do talk to eachother the interactions are mesmerising and the dialogue galvanising. It is a Coen flick after all.
Javier Bardem delivers a remarkable performance of a brooding menace. A performance far more harrowing than a Jason Voohrees or similar. Definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.
Drive is, in short, fucking awesome. From the moment it starts, our nameless main character is established in the coolest way possible: a high-speed car chase that showcases his nerves of steel, consummate professionalism, insane driving skills, and silent nature. This is really rather good, different type of vibe to your usual high school stuff, the same world of jocks, bullys and hippies but covers real difficulties like being in the closet, platonic love, mix tapes, university and mental illness. This has a lovely indie feel with some tiptop music.
