• The Matrix

    The Matrix

this movie has such a cool first half, and then it becomes a bit too action-y for me, like imagine this movie with more psychological horror. that would be so cool with the premise. the three main characters still make up for it though since they’re well developed throughout and played by great actors. i’ll probably watch the other movies just to see more trinity tbh

  • The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love

The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love

    “for my first girlfriend
may our relationship rest in peace”

after the screen cuts to black, these are the final words displayed. i think these words perfectly encapsulate this movie of adolescent love and how the director, maria maggenti, beautifully drew from her own experiences. the relationship between the main characters, evie and randy, is also so genuine, and the ways they show intimacy to one another are so beautiful and real. my favorite moments are the two of them reading walt whitman to each other and covering each other’s ears at the end

  • The Night of the Hunter

  • Saw II

    Saw II

i think the saw franchise is pretty good, but if i were to critique it i would probably say a little less saw traps and a little more gay melodrama

  • Most Beautiful Island

    Most Beautiful Island

i have a huge fear of insects, and this movie did not help at all! this movie was overall really great and suspenseful other than some questionable acting in the second act. idk i just love a lot about this movie especially the way this movie portrays the women in it. like a lot of the women are very morally grey characters, but they’re also just doing what they need to for survival

  • Witch's Cradle

    Witch's Cradle

maya deren was such a little weirdo and i honestly love that for her

  • When I Get Home

    When I Get Home

solange wears a cowboy hat in this. that’s all it needed for five stars, but other than that, it’s also just amazing

  • Shirkers

“and you were willing to just burn things just so that you could make your own film”

sandi tan is such a confident and complex storyteller, and the character study on her really was the driving force behind this documentary in my eyes. i loved how this showed that tan’s attachment to art is because it’s how she understands her own experiences. and while i am disappointed that the actual shirkers wasn’t finished, i think this is much better. documentaries about women being obsessive over their art are just the absolute best.

  • The Lost Boys

    The Lost Boys

    i’m sorry i can’t be him
him: an absolutely ripped shirtless man playing the saxophone in this movie for literally two minutes
