Simone’s review published on Letterboxd:
Agnes Varda once again takes on an extremely personal project by documenting her beloved husband's film career before his death from AIDS. The film alternates between clips from Jacques Demy's films, recreations of scenes from his childhood, and low key interviews of him just before his death. It's all held together by Varda's loving voiceovers full of admiration and respect for her fellow filmmaker's love of creativity from a young age. I learned a lot more about Jacques Demy's career than the bits that were touched on in Varda's autobiographical documentary The Beaches of Agnes. More than ever, I'd love to watch his films which seem to examine masculinity and gender dynamics just as much as his wife's films.
