The mood is shown and the action told. Not exactly my taste. Could work better as a short.

It has it’s faults, but I can’t believe this only has 6 ratings on Letterboxd so far. I guess it just hasn’t been easily available before. It’s definitely worth being seen by a lot more people.

It can get a bit silly, but sometimes I like that.

    Dogs Don't Wear Pants

Not stylish enough for a movie about fetish.

  • The Balloon

    The Balloon

I've started to like Yuzo Kawashima's work, but this one seems a bit weaker than the others I've seen (Suzaki Paradise, Tales of Ginza and Till We Meet Again. It focuses a lot on family relationships, but it seems to me that Kawashima is not able to portray these in a way that would be as believable as e.g. Ozu movies. There's something shallow here, the movie tries to be deep but ends up being a bit silly. The metaphor of tha balloon in the ceiling and which way it will go - maybe it's just a Japanese thing I don't get.

To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You

The story is so dull somehow that it makes me question what I liked about the first one.

  • Jojo Rabbit

    Jojo Rabbit

Besides a few good jokes, I didn’t find any emotional connection to the tone of the film. And the secondary characters were either not so well acted or not written to be interesting. Only the last 20 seconds saved it from being completely emotionless to me.

  • Tales of Ginza

    Tales of Ginza

Campy, in a good way. The dialogues get kind of ridiculous at one point, but it's all good. The film makes one want to hang out there in Ginza with those characters. I wonder how much it has changed now.

    Great supporting characters.

  • Arabella, the Pirate's Daughter

    Arabella, the Pirate's Daughter

Not as good as I remembered it. I love some of the costumes and set designs, but the lighting doesn't always seem to bring out the best of it. Some of the things that happen are left unjustified, especially near the end things just happen that don't make sense.

  • Little Women

    Little Women

If film is mosaic in time like Tarkovsky said then this is surely a masterpiece.

  • Les Misérables

    Les Misérables

What ever you do, don't watch the short first.

It ruined the experience for me. The short's main event happens about 1 hour into this movie so the wait for that was a bore. And I think that's the main problem with this film, that the inciting incidence happens so late.

Up until near the end, it felt like the short film stretched out over time. It's better made technically, but that's not enough. I'm not sure that the things…

  • Neon Bull

    Neon Bull

Great mix of realistic/naturalistic portrayals and painterly style. Unfortunately it is more of a portrait than a story.

10 times more human penises than horse penises.

  • Boarding Gate

    Boarding Gate

I really liked about 5 minutes of it. The rest was just too meaningless.
