  When Shah rukh khan’s titular Pathaan makes an action packed entry in his introductory scene, audiences around the world, no matter how sophisticated or bourgeoisie, can’t help but cheer and hoot at the Return of the King. SRK has been one of India’s most beloved actors for 30 years, and while the last decade has been largely forgetful for the actor, everyone has been rooting for his grand return.And in that mission, Pathaan scores a six.

  A director’s influence is often a sign of the strong, illustrious career they have built over time. What a bittersweet thing it is, then, to find a director whose work is so influential, yet entirely singular. Such is the case of Herk Harvey, whose only feature film remains 1962’s Carnival of Souls,a terrific low-budget atmospheric horror film from the ‘60s that is genuinely frightening, backed by a disquieting organ score.
