The Prince and the Showgirl

The Prince and the Showgirl ★★★

Part of my Bombshells & Centerfolds - My Female Fantasy Challenge (1)

This was the first film from Marilyn Monroe Productions, and the actress had full creative control, including her choice of director and leading man. She gave those duties to Sir Laurence Olivier and arranged to shoot on location in England, her first and only venture into movie-making outside the U.S. Perhaps the best aspect of this is seeing Monroe, as the showgirl Elsie, accurately predict how Olivier, as The Regent, will attempt to seduce her. There's no chemistry between the leads, and they seem to be acting out their parts alone, even when in the same scene. Can't recommend this very highly. Three stars, okay, nothing memorable.
