To Sir, with Love

To Sir, with Love ★★★★

Part of My Autumn Rewatches 6.1 Challenge
Task #4: Rewatch a film starring a black actor or actress.

We lost a truly great human being when Sidney Poitier passed away last week. Diplomat, actor, gentleman. In his role here as engineer-turned-teacher Mark Thackeray, Poitier drew on his own impoverished youth and hoodlum days as well as his ability to pull himself up by his bootstraps through menial jobs to eventually become the role model he plays here and was in real life as well. I can't hear Lulu sing the title song without tearing up. An excellent four-star film that everyone should see.
