Though I adore many aspects and eras of cinema, I prefer film from the 1920's-1960's, and particularly works of 'film noir'. I try and find a multitude of books about film and learn everything I can about it; cinema and music are by far my two favourite hobbies--they're as much symbolic of 'life' for me as air, water and food...
A fine reference I've found on 'film noir' has been this fourth edition of 'Film Noir: An Encyclopedia' from 2010 by the publishers Overlook Duckworth. I wholeheartedly recommend it--and I can't wait for its 5th edition.
