    The Florida Project

This could have been a lot bleaker but the way they focused on the kids kept it light and almost hopeful. Really strong portrayal of poverty and people who can’t get back up to a stable life. Shot at times like a documentary but also kind of arthouse. Lots of static camera and square composition like Wes Anderson gone low budget. The ending shocked me to tears.

    Kill List

Short and brutal. Like a series of horror vignettes stitched together and you’re left to connect the dots. What’s happening? Why did that guy say that? Is this really happening? Starts off as a kitchen sink domestic drama slash crime film and descends into the depths very quickly. Hard for me to stomach but you can’t fault the vision behind this story. Something that felt very British as well without the stereotypes that usually brings up.

I am an unabashed Star Wars fan so…

This film hit all my anxiety buttons from the very beginning so I’m not sure “enjoy” is the right word but it was superbly done. The pacing and gradual revelation is masterful. So many films like this go floppy in the third act but here it doesn’t get boring or go over the top. Jordan Peele’s comedy instincts are here in the background but he never lets it descend into farce. He’s made a B-movie with an A-movie approach in…
