    The Wailing


    The Wailing might be one of the most expertly-crafted horror films I've ever seen. At roughly 2.5 hours, it's a haunting journey. It does away with jump scares, choosing instead to creep inside you and wait until the right moment when your defenses are lowered. Not a single frame of its runtime is superfluous, and the end result is something that's really sticking with me. That's damn good horror.

    The highest praise I can give Suicide Squad is that it is a resounding disappointment. The movie itself is a confusing mess of plot threads - all missing either a beginning, a middle, or an end - that isn't sure whether it's supposed to be funny, edgy, or cookie-cutter blockbuster Hollywood bullshit.     A beautiful, moving film about refusing to accept your lot in life; about refusing to just go with the flow and let outside forces pressure you into a life you don't want. I wish the ending was more bold and willing to commit to one message or another, but everything else is so damn near perfect that I almost don't care about its stumbles toward the end. I wish there were more films that were willing to be both as grounded and as bizarre as this one.
