    mother!

    ★★★

From a filmaking perspective it’s quite impressive. But blimey Aronofsky lays it on thick, as usual. The ever increasing tension just goes on and on and on, relentlessly. You can only see so much of Jennifer Lawrence looking confused, pained and angry, and the film suffers for it because it’s all just too much to take in. Aronofsky goes for it BIG TIME, and is clearly very pleased with himself, there is much to admire but like all his previous films missed the mark again.

A sensational combination of Euro-Asian filmmaking with a Victorian twist. Chan-Wook's unique visual style seems more restrained than usual, nonetheless its a sumptuously crafted film.

Bar some telling moments on race, it's a shame Get Out is not as daring, scary or as funny as it could have been.

One of the best sci-fi films i've seen in a while, an intelligent film which gives you plenty to think about. Villeneuve really is a classy director, hasn't made a bad film yet.

A dark, depraved and unpredictable film which had me scratching my head constantly. Nobody else could have played Michele, Huppert is just astonishing, Meryl Streep can only dream of being this good.

There's many ways a government or a system can crush your spirit and dignity. I, Daniel Blake shows in devastating clarity how this could happen to any of us. Perhaps Loach's best film, essential viewing.
